From the Executive Director

As we celebrate the birth of Christ, I hope that 2007 has been a year of abundant life for you and those you love.

For Souly Business, the year has been filled with many blessings and we have built upon a sound foundation for ministry growth. Through the direction of the Holy Spirit, in addition to hosting three North Georgia men’s conferences, we launched Souly Business AM, a twice monthly opportunity for men to stay connected…and we initiated the Souly Business Daily Devotional email service. Finally, in November, Dave McAuley and his team hosted their second conference in Northeast Tennessee. We are grateful that, through them, God has affirmed the reproducibility of the ministry and has provided a blueprint for future growth. Our next target market for expansion is in Cumberland, MD. Through the leadership of Danny Malamis, we are excited about the opportunity to take Souly Business into the mid-Atlantic region.

Our 2008 North Georgia conferences are scheduled for February 8-10, May 16-18, and September 26-28 (click here for details). If you have not joined us for a retreat or served on a host team, make that a New Year’s resolution and invite others to come and experience an extraordinary two days (click here to register). Join us, also, for Souly Business AM. It’s a great way to stay connected. We meet at the GA 400 and Northridge Dr intersection (exit 6) in the University of Phoenix building from 6:45 to 8:00 A.M. on the first and third Friday each month.

As we refine the ministry model, our board of directors believes that God is calling us to continue to reproduce and grow the ministry. In the meantime, as indicated in the articles below, Souly Business is making a difference in the lives of men. I look forward to reporting back on future plans and progress and want to thank you for your participation, prayers, and support. I wish for you a blessed and Merry Christmas!
Your friend in Christ,

Kevin Latty

Souly Business -My Story  By David Montgomery

The November 2007 Souly Business conference was my second retreat and first weekend as a Host Team participant. The experience was rich and meaningful in so many ways. Since being introduced to Souly Business, I’m full of love with a renewed passion for life. Words are inadequate to describe my gratitude.

My life had been tumultuous over the last several years. Everything that was important to me had been in a state of flux or turmoil, including the unexpected loss of my father in 2005. Since my father’s passing, it had been impossible for me to gain any footing. Adding to my sadness was an increasingly strained and distant relationship with my brother and other members of my family.

Since attending Souly Business together with my brother, we have reconnected and established a renewed and deeper relationship. On the weekend, God worked through many men and showed me how to love, how to be loved, and how to communicate my love to others. I found myself seeking out my brother just to be in his presence. I experienced a deep love and adoration for him. Barriers that existed between me and the ones I loved most were removed. I began to see and experience people differently. I experienced what it means to be authentic and transparent without feeling ashamed or embarrassed. I experienced God’s forgiveness, reconciliation, and restoration like never before.

I am forever thankful to the Lord and to the Brothers of Souly Business for giving me and my family a renewed life in Christ. Needless to say, I will be back to serve a new group of Brothers in 2008 and beyond.

A View from the Kitchen - By Mark Montgomery

As a member of the Souly Business XIV Kitchen Crew, I arrived on Friday morning with one thought in mind...to open my heart, and serve others from behind closed doors. As I walked into the kitchen with that intent, I was met instantly by the hand of God. The feeling most men have on Sunday afternoon was the feeling I had from the first minute. The kitchen servants and I knew what the weekend was about in the conference room. As a Brother, you have time to share with each other after the messages, and then you get ready for the next speaker. What if you had the time to complete those conversations? Well I did, and it was awesome. I found myself welling up with tears as I cut fruit for the morning meal. God's hands were all over me. Why me? Only He knows the answer, but I was not complaining. Over the course of weekend my “love battery” was filling up fast from the fellowship with the kitchen team. And just as my battery could take no more, I heard some words from above saying, "Yes your battery is full, but I have a second battery for you. My thoughts are not your thoughts and I am not done with you, my son". As you can imagine, the tears were flowing.  I heard the Brothers downstairs keep mentioning the word "awesome" to describe our Heavenly Father, and while I agree, my word for him was different. My word for Him this weekend, while serving in the kitchen, was "unrecognizable". He had me in a place that was beyond comprehension and recognition.

In the kitchen, I also had the pleasure of serving with “Sergeant Bartee”. The word on the street is that he’s tough.  He is a man who redefines passion. Bartee pursues excellence with a vengeance. How can you argue with that? While I can't promise the same experience for others, I believe our Heavenly Father has something very special in store for the “kitchen dudes” and I will be back….again and again!
